What is Easter? On Easter Sunday we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. But I feel we sometimes forget what we are celebrating. In our society, it seems Easter is more about the Easter Bunny bringing eggs for us to find rather than celebrating Jesus Christ. Is anyone else confused as to why an Easter Bunny brings eggs? I always find this very puzzling but it is for a different story.
Easter Sunday has become another tradition in our society, one much like Christmas where lots of people think it’s about giving and receiving presents. Today, we went to Home Depot and as we were checking out, the nice lady asked my children if they were ready for the Easter Bunny to bring eggs tonight? My children are too little to comprehend at this time but I don’t want them to learn that in Easter we celebrate a bunny; I want them to know that many years ago, there was a man named Jesus who sacrificed himself for us sinners and that he came back among the living.
It will be my, and my husband’s, responsibility to teach our children what is right. And to let them know that society can be wrong at times. They have to make their own choices in the future but I would like to prepare them so they make the right ones. In 1 Corinthians 15:3-5, it says: “I gave you the message that I received. I told you the most important truths: that Christ died for our sins, as the Scriptures say; that he was buried and was raised to life on the third day, as the Scriptures say; and that he appeared to Peter and then to the twelve apostles.”
From what I’ve learned, I don’t think the Bible really talks about Easter, or at least not in the way we celebrate it. But I hope you do enjoy your Easter with your loved ones, and I hope you celebrate that Jesus died for us but resurrected to bring us the good news, that God loves us.
